About this tutorial

About this tutorial

This tutorial is an exercise for students in the fall term of General Biology at Portland State University. The students will be given a choice of using the web version or a paper "worksheet". Their attitudes will be compared as will their performance on several related exam questions on the next quiz.

The tutorial has a linear design with a non-recorded quiz in the middle and a recorded quiz at the end. Students' comments are also solicited via forms pages just before the quiz. I chose to focus this tutorial on osmosis because the graphics can tell most of the story and if the students can link the vocabulary to the graphics, they should be able to understand the basic concepts and apply them to a similar situation.

This tutorial is part of a study on the use of technology in large classrooms that is supported by the Fund for Improvement of Postsecondary Education, US Department of Education. For more information on our project, please see our project home page or contact me at rueterj@pdx.edu.
