Portland -
The City of Roses

At the center of Oregon's largest metropolitan area, Portland can be both cosmopolitan and intimate. Within view and easy driving distance of Mount Hood, split by the Willamette and close to the Columbia, Portland is closely tied to its natural setting.

At the same time, as the hub of commerce and a center of culture and education, Portland hums with activity. Still, by both design and luck, Portland has retained an intimate feel with its tightly knit communities and intimate districts. Welcome to Portland- were glad you came.

Portland Events:

  • Portland Visitors Association
A bad site that not as helpful as it should be. Better to visit their office, or call them directly at (503) 222-2223 or (800) 345-3214. You will find: Things to See, Where to Eat, How to Get Around, Visitor and Business Services,Where to Stay, Things to Do, Itineraries, Portland Profile

  • Northwest SkyCam Network
Live camera feeds from many sites around the Portland area.

Beervania:
Portland beer drinkers go through stages. First, you move here, or turn 21. Then you realize that every corner tavern is likely to serve 10 excellent homegrown microbrews, so you go crazy and try them all. Of the 1,000+ microbrewers in the U.S. today, there are more craft brewers in and around Portland than anywhere else in America.

Skiing:
Yes you can ski all year around at Timberline Lodge, Just 60 minutes away from PSU. Even if skiing not your thing, take a drive up and explore this National Historic Lodge.

Sights:
Have the Portland Visitors Association send you a free Walking Map of Portland and see these intriguing sites.

  • Waterfront Park
Portland's front lawn. Drop by here for an afternoon stroll because there will be events here all summer long.

  • International Rose Test Gardens
Portland is the city or roses and raindrops. If your lucky, you can see both at the test gardens. Thousands of blooms in every color of the rainbow fill the air with rose perfume. My grandmother loves this place.

  • Japanese Garden
Portland is the gateway to the East. Visit the gardens for a moment of peace in our hectic city. The five gardens that make up the Japanese Garden are breathtaking any time of year. Banks of azaleas and beds of irises set the tone in spring, and the twisting branches of bare trees crate dramatic silhouettes against the sky in winter.

  • Statue of Portlandia
See Americas second largest copper statue located on the Portland Building.

  • Powell's Books
Americas largest independent bookstore. I is four stores high and growing.
