Scanning Images

 

Images on the Web:
Please Read this background information about putting images on the web.


Make the file structure:

The procedure looks like this in Windows 95:

  • Right click the start button, then click explore.
    This brings up explorer program. We will use explorer to make the file structure on the zip disc. Notice there are two main windows, the left window is the folder structure, the right window will show the files that are in the highlighted folder.
  • Double click the Removable disc icon. Click File, then New, then Folder.

  • Type the name of the folder you wish to create.

Please use the same folder structure as you see below.

Your name (i.e. Miller)

  • Donald
    • scan all images will be in the original scanned dpi = 300, and PhotoShop file format: psd. if your working with some other graphic program, use a .tif file format.
    • thumb size = 300 X ? dpi = 75 (all images will be in .gif format)
    • large size = 75 X ? dpi = 75 (all images will be in .gif format)
  • Forbes
    • scan ( all images will be the original scanned dpi, and PhotoShop file format, .psd)
    • thumb size = 300 X ? dpi = 75 (all images will be in .jpg format)
    • large size = 75 X ? dpi = 75 (all images will be in .jpg format)

Naming you images:

The image name will be made of the image three digit number and the first two letter of the genus and species name of the animal.

  • For example, the Opossum scientific name is Didelphis verginiana, and is the first animal on the list. The file name becomes 001dive.
  • The second animal an the list is the Vagrants Shrew (Sorex vagrans). The file name will be 003sova.

If you are unsure of the scientific name of the animal, look on the back of the image.
