Curriculum Revision
with Educational Technology:

Improving Student Outcomes in Large Courses

Welcome. We are conducting a three year study to improve student outcomes in larger courses through technology, innovative course design, and assessment. We are supported by the U.S. Department of Education, under the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE), and Portland State University.

Educational Technology Resources:
Tools to aid in applying technologies to education including: how to guides, Website templates, scripted tools, tutorials, a grade delivery system, and a nice table of edtech resources, PSU resources, along with links to outside resources on the web.

Summer 98 Mini-conferance
Teaching & Learning in Large Classrooms.

Tech Fair 98:
Our project will have an exhibit in PSU's annual Technology Fair .

Presentations:

Project Abstract:

This proposal attempts to improve student's experiences in a cost effective manner, establish an infrastructure that helps implement technology, and evaluate the effectiveness of educational technology on student learning and cost efficiency. The project identifies 14 faculty teaching in digital media/multimedia presentation classrooms, most in Harrison Hall, a 350 seat classroom. These faculty will participate in two intensive summer work sessions that include course design and a variety of educational technology. Faculty will redesign their courses to incorporate technology and pre-enrollment self-assessment quizzes that represent the prerequisite knowledge and skills needed for success in the class. These new courses will be compared to courses taught without technology. The intensive summer workshop will be offered to faculty from other campuses and participating faculty will be shown how to modify the digital media modules created at PSU.
